I am generally interested in getting the most out of diffraction data. Instrumentation, data processing, and data analysis fascinate me, and I seek for projects that push the limits of what crystallography can achieve. Electron diffraction (ED) is a promising part of crystallography where I seek to contribute. I made a contribution to taking ED to the awareness of chemists, and together with Soheil Mahmoudi, I got some information about partial charges from ED data. Collaborations with the PSI Detector group and with Dectris, famous producer of hybrid pixel detectors, are important aspects for my contributions to the field of electron diffraction.
While my background is Physics, my PhD in Structural Biology and the structure of the nucleosome remodelling factor ISWI turns my interest towards biochemical and metal-inorganic compounds.
If you are interested in doing your Bachelor or Masters thesis project in crystallography, please come by or contact me. There are plenty of possibilities for improving aspects in experimental crystallography, like sample preparation or data collection. Ifd a you like programming, we have a couple of suitable projects including controlling our electron diffractometer JEM2100plus and the X-ray diffractometer D8. I would also like to investigate the water quality in the building by looking at the minerals from various taps.
