Single Crystal X-ray Diffraction
SXRD serves to solve the crystal structure of chemical compounds. It provides information about the positions of the individual elements of the molecule. Bond lengths and bond angles are derived information. SXRD also provides information about non-bonded contacts. In addition, the space group is determined. Often, SXRD can differentiate between individual elements. The greater the weight of the elements, and the closer they are within the periodic table, the more difficult it can be, or the better data quality is required. Differentiating between light elements like B, C, N, O is rather routine.
